FAQ
Plain answers before you trust a mileage tracker.
A quick guide to the free tier, reports, privacy, battery use, and what OD Miles can and cannot do for tax record keeping.
Plain answers
The basics, quickly.
What does "15 free trips" mean exactly?
Every calendar month, OD Miles auto-tracks your first 15 trips completely free, with no credit card and no time limit. You see the estimated value at the IRS rate, classify them, and keep the records.
Does this replace my mileage notebook?
For many drivers, yes. OD Miles records trip dates, locations, distances, classifications, estimated values, vehicles, and notes so your records are organized and exportable instead of handwritten. Whether those records satisfy IRS substantiation depends on your tax situation, so talk to your accountant.
Is it only for self-employed drivers?
No. It's useful for contractors, employees who submit reimbursement, small teams, volunteers, medical mileage, and any owner who drives for their business.
Why is the price so low?
Mileage tracking should be easy to justify. For frequent business drivers, one ordinary workday of tracked miles can represent more estimated mileage value than the $4.99 monthly price. Actual tax benefit depends on your situation.
Will this drain my battery?
The app is designed to be quiet: it uses motion and location signals together so it can sleep when you're not driving and record when you are.
What happens to my location data?
OD Miles is privacy-first. Routes are records for you, not ad data — no advertising SDKs, no third-party analytics, no location resale. When you sign in, your trip data syncs to your OD Miles account so you can restore it on a new device. See our Privacy Policy for the full subprocessor list and your rights.
Can I use it for taxes?
The 2026 $0.725/mi standard mileage rate is preloaded, and OD Miles exports PDF and CSV mileage logs your CPA can use. OD Miles is a record-keeping tool, not tax-preparation software or tax advice — actual deductibility depends on your specific situation and IRS substantiation rules.
What happens when I hit 15 free trips?
The app lets you know and shows you the value you've captured. You can upgrade to Pro for unlimited tracking, or wait until the next month when your free 15 trips reset automatically.
